A Few Shelves.
A Few Times a Year.

We cure four hundred bars to a batch and most of them are already spoken for. What is left, if anything is left, finds its way to a small handful of shops we trust. We cannot promise you a case. We cannot even promise you a bar. But you are welcome to write.

The Wholesale Cartographer

One Man.
One Ledger.

Wholesale at Relic is handled by a single person — our wholesale cartographer, Émile — who keeps a leather-bound ledger of every shop that has ever carried us, every batch they received, and every bar they sold. He reads each new application himself. He writes back by hand, eventually.

I.

Small allocations

Most accounts open with a single case of twelve. We would rather you sell out twice than sit on stock.

II.

No exclusivity, ever

We will not promise your city to you. We will not promise your country to you. The world is large.

III.

Pay the maker

Wholesale pricing is 50% of retail. We do not negotiate. The producers we work with do not negotiate either.

IV.

Patience required

Émile reads applications in batches, usually the first week of each month. Expect a reply in three to six weeks.

A note from Émile

We Are Not
A Distributor.

I have turned down department stores. I have turned down hotel groups in three countries. Not out of pride — out of arithmetic. We cure forty-two days. We ship four bars a season. There is not enough Relic to go around, and there will not be next year either.

If you keep a small shop, an apothecary, a hotel of fewer than thirty rooms, a barber, a bath house, or a bookstore that happens to also sell soap — write to me. Tell me where you are, who comes through your door, and what you already carry. I will read it. If there is a bar for you, we will find one.

— É. Vaugirard, wholesale cartographer
